Do the Woo is Proud to be a Media Partner at WordCamp Asia 2025
For the third year in a row, we are excited to once again be chosen as a media partner of WordCamp Asia in Manila, this coming March, 2025.
With all flagship WordCamps we naturally love to share updates and talk to organizers, attendees and sponsors, both pre-WordCamp and during the event. But being recognized as a media partner, well, is the icing on the cake.
And I’m sure that myself and some of our hosts will be looking for community members to chat with for our shows. In fact, Do the Woo is a sponsor and into the New Year will will be talking about that more.
A fine group of media partners
What we enjoy the most by being part of the group of media partners, are all the other partners that we hope to meet up with.
Just want to thank WPLift, WPBuilds, Kripesh Adwani, WP-Content, Craylor Made, Coach Boost Gio, WPQRST, The WP Weekly, The Gutenberg Times, NET 25 and Bob Reyes who make up this group of media who have stepped up to support WordCamp Asia.
Episode Transcript
BobWP:
Well, today, with the release of this episode, I’m actually at WordCamp Asia Contributor Day. Over the next couple of days, the event happens, and I’m really looking forward to it. So, we thought, what better timing than to launch version 5.0 at WordCamp Asia. After our update to 4.2, which was the last one, we skipped a few that included new shows, new hosts, and even moving around some of the hosts. But 5.0 brings you a new design, or specifically, a redesign of our homepage. So, why did we do this new design of the homepage? If you look at it before you even listen to this, in these days of minimalist design, you may wonder. But let me explain.
When we decided to move to a channel with various shows and hosts, presenting our content was a challenge. In version 4.0, we launched on WordPress.com and had a team of some of the top-notch WordPress devs and designers creating our new site, which was amazing. Well, as we grew and added more shows, one of the things I didn’t feel our site really represented—especially on the homepage—was the content we were providing to the Woo and WordPress ecosystem. So, after several discussions with our special projects manager, Derek at Automattic, we started moving towards a more news-site approach.
I was told that this wouldn’t work with most podcast sites because of the amount they publish, but hey, they felt Do the Woo was prolific enough to pull it off. As a result, with the new homepage, we feel it better reflects our multimedia side. Now, also in this new version, as you probably have noticed—hopefully—is that after six years, we have added video to our mix. Now, we did do some video off and on in the past. We did some live video, which we will hopefully be doing more of as well. We did our first one with some of our hosts to kick off version 4.2 and all that good stuff.
Now, as we move forward, we will have video. There will be a few exceptions, but I know this is long overdue. I had my reasons for not adding video, and I’m going to save that backstory for another episode. But I promise I’ll get into that more. Now, in my heart, podcasts are meant to be audio. It’s just… I’ve been around podcasts a long time, and that’s just how I personally feel. So, the audio will be what goes out in our feed, but the video will be an added bonus. You’ll find it on the episode post page and on our YouTube channel—which could certainly use more subscribers. So please, head over there. That’s another story for another day as well.
So, that was the big piece of version 5.0. There are a few more updates to the site. We recently added our newest host, Cami MacNamara, and you can listen to her recent episode with Marcus. You can read the post welcoming her to our team, and she does have a profile now on Do the Woo. I’m not going to go through all the other changes we made, but if you’re interested, you can visit our changelog on our site. Yes, we do have a changelog—you’ve heard me talk about that. I will come back sometime and actually do an episode on the decision around video a bit more because you might find that interesting, especially since it took us six years to get there.
And that’s it. I’m going to enjoy the next couple of days at WordCamp Asia. If you happen to listen to this while you’re there, I’m sure you’re probably a little too busy and will be catching up later on. But if you do, make sure to stop by our booth.
So, until next time,
Take care.
