The long and winding road of WooBits has ended. And a lesson learned.

Episode Transcript

Bob:
Last week I shared an episode on our launch where I talked about the variety of shows we now have and the hosts behind them. When I got to BobWP on Community, I noted that this one is a bit of an exception and I felt I had dive a bit into it by itself.

Essentially BobWP on Community has replaced WooBits.

Now WooBits had a nice and complicated life span. The first thoughts were to use it for updates at Woo and other news around the space. In the beginning, news outside of WooCommerce.com was few and far between. I’m sure things were going on somewhere, somehow, but not matter how much I stayed on top of it, well, it wasn’t working out.

Then it went to commentaries, bits and pieces of stuff I found, and a lot of meandering. I even podcasted a few times about changes in WooBits so if you have been a listener long, that may sound vaguely familiar to you.

I went as far as considering pulling out single audio tips from episodes and sharing them as WooBits. But that turned into quite a task and more times than not, standalone tips weren’t the same as hearing the conversation that surrounded it. Audio bits just didn’t quite do it for me when it came to content here.

The a couple of things happened.

First, I was noticing that the WooBits where I did commentary on felt more in place to the content I wanted to share. But somehow it still didn’t make sense, titled WooBits. Although I’m sure no one gave it a second thought.

The second thing that happened was a bit more eye opening came to me indirectly, so bear with me on this. Over on my site BobWP.com, well I blog occasionally. Always telling myself I will blog more. And then realizing two months have slipped by. A couple of times I have threatened, or should I say, shared, that I would start a podcast on BobWP. Yes yet another podcast. Well, who was I fooling.

Time slipped by and as that thought drifted further from my mind, and as I felt less interested in finding that sweet spot for WooBits, suddenly something occurred to me. Or actually two things

First, why reinvent the wheel, or the platform

Was I trying to fit something in only thinking of the show title, WooBits?

Well, duh, What if I changed WooBits to more of a community commentary that would be my weekly piece. No WooBits, but instead BobWP on Community.

Lesson learned here. And something I don’t normally do as I am someone always to drop something that doesn’t work and pivot when needed. But in the end it was such a simple solution.

And I’m sure there have been instances in your own business, or where you work or even your personal life where you just kept something for too long for the wrong reason.

Well, I hope you join me as I share my own community thoughts moving forward. And no better time to start this change until Do the Woo 4.0 is now live. Cheers.

  1. Not really goodbye, just a bit of a rebranding and slight shift in content. It\’s nice that you can be flexible to pivot and try new things.

    1. Exactly. Although in my head saying goodbye to that name was a relief 😉
