Dropping My .02% About WordPress Marketshare

Slipping into WooCommerce core, both WooCommerce 6.5 followed by 6.5.1 fix was released as well as WooCommerce Blocks 7.6 Release notes.

The WordPress marketshare drop

Aside from that I just cannot help but bring up my .02% about the latest and greatest around the diminishing marketshare of WordPress. Joost, from Yoast.com write a post recently about the results of finding the marketshare that WordPress proudly holds onto dropped by .04% since February. Now I have huge respect for Joost, both as a long-time friend and a voice in the space. His post was worth noting.

By the time you hear or read this there will have been several opinions published and as much as I would like to peruse those and find the gold nuggets, I choose not to. If you have any interest you will see them pop up. (I think I have seen four already as I am recording this).

Metrics are a big deal in our lives. Numbers. Marketshare. We all look at various impacts. In this case it is the full site editor, Gutenberg, people leaving WordPress, inflation. Heck I just don’t know.

What I do know is personally I am not losing any sleep over that number right now. To be fair, depending on your own stakes, you may feel differently. And trust me, there are some interesting insights that Joost shared in the post, as well as others that are either agreeing with or serving a rebuttal. And if you dare go down that rabbit hole, well, good luck.

As I said, I just wanted to give my share, or my .02% on the topic.

Going just a step further, to close this out. I have had touchpoints in the technical space for over 3 decades. If I was someone that could predict what came next for any specific technology, or 100% understood a lot of the ups and downs, well, maybe I wouldn’t be rich but I would sure have a lot to talk about.

And depending on what that marketshare does over the next few months, or maybe even few years, there will be more on the subject and I’ll try to edge in a bit of my own marketshare along the way.
