What am I doing here today. Well, I just thought I would share some resources and opportunities that you may have missed, or can use a friendly reminder.
Flagship WordCamps
So, we have WordCamp Asia coming up in March. And it looks like they just released their 4th batch of tickets. So if you are planning on going, not sure if this is the last batch or not… but might be a good idea to get your ticket soon.
WordCamp Europe is extending their call for speakers. So take advantage of that. And if you need some help, they have mentors on the make.wordpress slack channels that can help you with that. Also, for anyone who wants to sponsor, they still have some spots open. Not sure when tickets will go on sales, but you can subscribe to their emails to keep up to date.
And lastly, if you missed it, the location of WordCampUS was announced at the State of the Word. This year it will be in Portland, Oregon, which is very ironic as we lived less than two hours from there for 15 years and always had to travel to any WordCamp US across the country. The timing wasn’t right for me on that one for sure. Anyway, that is slated from September 17th through 20th, with the first two days being Contributor Days.
Looking for work?
I get a lot of people reaching out to me via dm’s and emails asking for help to find a job in WordPress. Well, as much as I love to be as much help as I can, I can’t do much for them that way other than sharing resources. So I have four suggestions that I give them.
- Be active on LinkedIn.
- Check out the job listings on PostStatus.com
- Follow the companies that you are interested in working at on different social platforms, as they may share job openings.
- Check out the X account, @michelleames, as Michelle does a weekly thread of job opportunities every Wednesday on X.
More sites and resources worth mentioning
Now again, I know I have mentioned many of these before, but sometimes we forget the valuable opportunities that are right in front of us.
TheWP.world. So much happening here. Let people know where in the world you are. Find other WordPressers nearby your hometown or when you are traveling. See the WordCamps happening near you. See if someone you know is attending, or let others know you will be there. And where you have been. Plus share your contributions to WordPress as well as photos you have submitted to the photo directory at WP.org. There’s so much goodness going on there, make sure and be part of it.
WPSpeakers.com. Do you want to up your game for speaking at WordPress events. You can add a profile for free there. And if you are looking for speakers for a WordCamp, Meetup, NextGen Event, your webinar, your podcast, check it out as well.
SupportInclusioinInTech.com. Having mentioned speaking at WordCamps, there are many reasons that so many talented people are not able to do this. The biggest one is often resources. If you are an underrepresented speaker go there to apply for financial support.
And lastly, make.wordpress.com and their Slack Channel. There are so many ways you can directly contribute to the WordPress project. I can’t even begin to tell you about them. But between Slack and WordPress.org, you can learn so much.
As you can guess, this is only the tip of the iceberg out there as far as support and resources. You can always stay on top of things by finding us on social. Plus if you need any guidance or recommendations with the resources I mentioned, I am glad to point you in the right direction.
