In this quick update, Bob Dunn explains a recent hiccup that caused episodes to temporarily disappear from some podcast apps. It turns out some hidden old plugin data in the site’s database was responsible for the issue.

The team has now cleaned everything up, and your feed should be back to normal. Bob Dunn also highlights some past episodes worth revisiting, including deep dives into open source and AI news, an honest conversation on digital burnout and the early web, and the always-entertaining Zach and Carl discussing side projects and the future of AI in development. Head to your favorite app or the site to catch up, and thanks for sticking with us.

Bob Dunn: Hey everyone, Bob here with a quick one from Open Channels FM. If your podcast app has been a little quiet from us for a little bit here, there’s a reason. We had a hiccup on the site. Some old data from a plugin we stopped using years ago, like 4 or 5 years ago, was still somehow hidden in the old database and it finally caught up with us.

Anyway, new episodes kept going up on the site as usual. Our feed was still working fine. They just weren’t making it through to some of the podcast apps. Wasn’t anyone’s fault. Just one of those things that happens when a site has been around for a while, collects a bit of dust in the corners. Fortunately, the team found it, cleaned it up, and everything’s back to normal.

Now, of course, the good news is the episodes were never really gone. They’re all there, just sitting a bit further down your list than usual. Might want to peruse that. So I wanted to also point out a few that might be worth going back to.

Open Channels News, if you haven’t been able to keep up on that, it’s worth catching up on. It’s because it’s more than just a rundown of the headlines for that day. It does take a bit of a deeper look at what’s happening in open source and AI and the open web and why it matters. There’s been a lot going on in the past month, so it’s worth scrolling back and catching up on.

There’s also a couple conversations. I had one about balancing digital life and making the internet weird again with my friend Bowe. We talked about burnout, finding balance away from the screen, and missing the early web when it was full of niche communities and personal blogs written just for the fun of it.

Also, if you enjoy our dynamic duo, Zach and Carl, go back to Why We Build Systems. It’s also known as Zach and Carl’s Emporium of Madness. You know, they just love their conversations. They got into reinvention, side projects, the systems that keep them organized, and where AI might be taking development work.

So the links to those are all on the site. Of course, you can go in and peruse your app. Thanks for sticking with us. See you in the next episode. Take care.
