Tips, insights and commentary
“With data sovereignty, and limitations like that, there’s going to be technology that’s excluded. And I don’t think that those folks who are making those policy decisions believe that’s a bad thing. I think that they view the trade-off as necessary. The European Union in a lot of their policymaking, they understand the trade-offs that are associated with the policies that they’re implementing.” —David Snead, Episode 728

“Impact is leverage. Leverage should make an agency owner’s life easier, should remove their friction. It should remove decision fatigue. It should help them sell with confidence. It should strengthen their delivery and protect their margins. That’s the table stakes for any partner an agency chooses to work with. The partnership should help an agency delight their customers. It should be a force multiplier. You know, these are all things that I think are important.” —Zach Stepek, Episode 726
“Merchants very much care about ownership the second they realize they don’t have it. And so you see this all over X in particular, people who have been deplatformed or they can’t do a thing that they want to do because their platform doesn’t allow them to do that. And that’s when they suddenly realize like, oh, ownership is actually really important. And the best way that I get that is open source. So I think that’s like an education thing.” —Beau Lebens, Episode 716
Embracing Feedback and Growth in Development
“It’s an odd one. I think back to myself even just a few years back, you know, had someone approached me and pointed out, I guess pointed out, you know, my lack of understanding or some of the faults in my approach to work, I probably would have taken that in a negative way. At the time, you know, I thought that what I was doing was amazing. I wasn’t able to really kind of look within and see the faults and see, you know, some of the things I could do better. So, you know, perhaps there’s a little bit of the aspect there, but I also think a lot of it comes down to the approach. You intro your session accordingly and I think you can really set the tone and make people feel comfortable. I’ve realized now that I’m older and, you know, I’m more willing to accept that I do need help from a lot of people around me and in turn I get better because of that help. So I think understanding that has allowed me to be more open minded and be really open to criticism, even the worst criticism.” — Troy Chaplin, Episode 704
