Media Partner at WCEU
Now back to WCEU. Well, as you likely know, I am heading to WordCamp Europe in Porto, Portugal in a little over one week. And I’m proud to announce that Do the Woo is a Media Partner at the 10th WordCamp Europe. Interestingly enough, a lot of what I will be doing as a Media Partner would be the same things I would do if I was simply attending. It’s just the nature of Do the Woo and everything I have done after attending WordCamps for the last 12 years.
The event itself
I’m not going to get into all the cool stuff that is happening event-wide, as I would suggest you hear it from two the organizers we had on the podcast recently. But overall they have a lot of great things happening, as well as a WP Cafe for general group conversations and the chance to network all the time with some very cool people. So I’ll leave it at that.
DTW and podcasting at WCEU
When it comes to what I’ll be doing the two days of the event itself, not including contributors day, I will be networking and podcasting. In fact, I will be at several booths doing short podcasts. And a lot of these booths will be our very own Pod Friends, our sponsors, who are also sponsoring WCEU. Pretty cool huh?
So if you would like to jump in on a podcast, do a short chat or make animal sounds (the latter being optional), you will likely find me somewhere in the Expo Hall those two days. Do not be afraid to approach me and ask about doing a podcast. I know the time will be limited, but hey, I’ve been known to get creative.
Do the Woo hosts and guests
Well, as you can imagine, one of the things I am looking forward to is seeing a lot of our past guests for the first time IRL. This is an opportunity that doesn’t come around very often. But I love it.
Also, it’s pretty cool that several of the voices you hear as hosts on Do the Woo will be there. These include, Anna Maria Radu, Jonathan Wold, Robbie Adair, Robert Jacobi, Carl Alexander, Till Kruss, Ronald Gijsel, Marcus Burnette, Tammy Lister and Abha Thakor, who is almost certain she will be there. So if you see them say hi, or really put them on a spot and ask to do a podcast with them. Knowing my hosts, they will be very gracious and make it happen.
The gear I’m taking
Podcasting gear I’m dragging along the way.
Well, some of you might be interested. Others, not so much. But needless to say, I have learned what works and doesn’t work when doing podcasts on the road. Heck, I have even done podcasts on a train. Needless to say, to prepare myself and try to squeeze through TSA and customs, I am using existing gear and some new stuff. In fact this photo is at the point of where I actually unboxed everything I ordered. I guess I could have done a “unboxing video” but, well, that just didn’t happen. Maybe I will do something post-WCEU about the technical experiences. Who knows.
And as far as the recording gear, in a nutshell. I am bringing my Rodecaster Pro with a couple of Rode PodMics. This is great for setup at the booths where I have a small footprint to set it up. I have also added two Sennheiser MD 42 mics that are better with background noise. I can easily plug those into the Rodecaster Pro if needed for a noisy space or to put four peeps on one show. And lastly, the Rode Wireless Go II and two Lavalier Go mics. It has a dual channel receiver that can be plugged into my iPhone or iPad and two wireless transmitters with to clip on for podcasting. Should be fun and keeps us moving.

Overall good feels
Let me just say this. I’ve been to a few WordCamps over the years. Fortunately I have been able to make all the WordCamp US national events. And each time I am able to make a WordCamp, I always walk away with a positive and energy-filled respect and love for the community.
