Today’s topic: breaking out of the AI bubble. Bob Dunn kicks off this episode of Open Web Conversations talking about how easy it is to get stuck in our own tech circles. Especially when it comes to AI.
Instead of just following the same crowd and stories, this series, “AI for the Rest of Us,” is all about hearing from people and businesses using AI in new and unexpected ways. Maybe you’ll discover something that totally shifts your perspective, or just realize others outside your circle are doing cool things, too.
Stick around as Bob Dunn shares why exploring beyond your bubble really matters in today’s open web.

Bob:
Now, I have hit upon a new series in this podcast, Open Web Conversations, and that’s why you’re listening to this via Open Web Conversations. I started it with the first episode just a bit ago, but I wanted to share a few more thoughts on how this developed. Now, as you may or may not know, it’s called AI for the Rest of Us.
I’ve been in various bubbles throughout my years of being in business. I won’t go through them all, but the fact is, this isn’t the first time I’ve talked about expanding your bubble, and probably won’t be the last. Let’s take tech in general, for instance. You could be someone that is really into coding, a specific CMS, et cetera, et cetera. You kind of see where I’m going. There’s bubbles for all of these, and a lot of who I follow are those who are building at a frantic rate, jumping from one AI to another AI platform, burning through their tokens depending on which way the allowances fall.
So all of this is happening, and sometimes, well, we tend to get, I don’t want to say sucked into, but pretty much in an echo chamber, learning about exactly what we’re doing and hearing all the stories behind it, et cetera, et cetera. So this is why I started this series, AI for the Rest of Us.
I had this wild idea, well, maybe it’s not wild, but with the AI bubble, most people are stuck in one of these smaller bubbles, or they really put their focus into it. Now, I’m not saying that is bad, because whatever works for you is good, but consider how much more understanding of AI you would have if you were to hear from outside your bubble, other businesses, industries, even professionals that are using it. Maybe they’re not always building on it, but they’re using it.
And if you did this, 2 things could happen. First, surprisingly, you might learn something. It could be something positive that you never thought of before when it comes to AI, or perhaps challenges or fears that never came up in your own bubble, but this has opened your eyes a little bit. Secondly, you would be surprised that a lot of people are doing the same thing with AI. Maybe they’re not in your bubble that you’re doing, but slightly different, or even in a unique way. Imagine that.
In the big open web of ours, it’s obvious that AI is filling a lot of space these days. And knowing just that bit beyond your bubble, well, that’s all the better. And that is what the series is all about, AI for the Rest of Us.
Stay tuned. Tomorrow we’ll have our second episode. And until then, take care.
