Hello everyone, Bob here, back again with Open Signal.
Last Friday, I told you why this show exists the way it does. Just me, you know, no panels, no hedging. Sometimes you’ll agree with me, sometimes you won’t. I said, that’s really the point of what I’m doing here. And today I want to just kind of build on that because there’s a piece of it I really didn’t say outright last time.
It’s not just that this is me. It’s actually me. You know, I’m pinching myself now. Well, that’s kind of weird, but I’m a real person sitting here saying real things. That shouldn’t need pointing out, but these days, well, especially if you’re new to the podcast, it kind of does.
Here’s what I mean. Our site, it’s been through 8 years of content that changed shape more times than I can even count, or even tell you the different kinds of content. Through all of that, with the podcast itself, it was never AI generated. There isn’t a script or an idea that started as a prompt. And I can pretty much say that for not just myself, in this show, but for my hosts on all the podcasts we have.
Now, I have said this again too. I do use AI. I’ll be straight about that. When an episode is finished, there’s real value in repurposing it. There’s show notes, key takeaways, questions that were asked, sometimes even a blog post pulled with a specific emphasis on something that was talked about. That is simply AI doing something useful with content a human already made. It’s really not the same as AI making the content in the first place, or what a lot of people call slop.
Now, I’m not saying this to boast, that’s for sure. If you know me, I’m not trying to say I’m better than anybody else or anyone else, and I’m not saying it to knock anyone who is doing it differently. It’s just what I’m doing here, and it’s what our hosts do here, what we all do here. I think it’s worth saying out loud once in a while. And for me on this show, especially since it’s entirely built around my honest take.
I’ve been doing some form of content since the late ’80s. It wasn’t even called content then. It changed 100 times over and some things come back. And then of course, things will keep changing. But the one thing that hasn’t changed and isn’t going to is that there’s still a person behind the voice when you listen to any of our episodes.
For this one, it’s me showing up, saying what I actually think. That’s what Open Signal is at its core. It’s not a format, not a workflow, just me talking. And a side note, this was not scripted by AI. I actually wrote this script down and did it myself. So, you know, hey, I still like to write sometimes.
